Community Seeking Long Term Members Posted 8/24/2008
The Glass Center for Sustainable Community is a developing intentional community in northeast Texas. We are situated on a beautiful property consisting of approximately 1000 acres of untouched forest and a 45 acre private lake. We pride ourselves on our relaxed environment while maintaining a strong work ethos. While, currently, more of a "WWOOF"ing facility, we are striving to become a sustainable community. With a recent shift in volunteers/members, we are looking for people that would stay for a significant amount of time and are self-motivated. Due to a gender imbalance on site (four men, one woman), we are primarily looking for females in order to maintain a fair balance, but men with applicable skills would certainly be considered. Skills we particularly need filled include: vermiculture, livestock experience (currently goats and chickens), organic gardening, aquaculture, bio-diesel manufacture, electrical/electrician experience, web design, small business operation, non-profit operation, management/human resources experience, and/or building experience. Do not let a lack of any of these skills prevent you from contacting us. We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic people and would consider all applicants. Please contact us as soon as possible, due to limited living space.

Green / Arts Community in NC Mountains Posted 8/17/2008
High Cove is a new community in the mountains of western North Carolina, focused on the environment, the arts, and life-long learning. The goal is to create a sustainable community that will foster rich and lasting human relationships and provide a place for people of all ages and backgrounds to live, learn, and share art and experience––while preserving the land, water, native plants and animals. High Cove includes a forest preserve, organic farm site, and trails along creeks and ridgetops, as well as two neighborhoods and a mixed-use village center. High Cove is located less than an hour from downtown Asheville, near the renowned Penland School of Crafts, in an area alive with potters, woodworkers, glass, metal and other crafts workers. Building sites for homes and studios are available. Development standards call for green homes that conserve energy and natural resources. A small, mixed-use village center will follow. This “main street” is called Chestnut Street in honor of the magnificent tree that was decimated by blight. By planting chestnut trees, we will help bring the chestnut back to this region. In addition to caring for the natural environment, High Cove supports the human environment with a variety of public and civic spaces. These gathering places are the foundation of neighboring, and build the social capital that makes great communities.

12 Building SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTIVE Complex in the Great Southwest FOR SALE Posted 7/30/2008
Luna county New Mexico famous for it’s good water, 4 gentle seasons, good air quality, relaxed atmosphere, and creative and friendly people. Abundant sunshine provides great solar potential for power and water heating. Unobstructed sunrises and sunsets and views in all directions. Deming, NM is just up the road about ½ hour and provides shopping, building materials, hardware, health food, good library, and hospital. We researched and picked this area to create our school, because of its growing season, unique micro-climate, tillable soil, accessibility, tranquility, views, low taxes, and reliable well water. The property is a secluded 460+ acres easily accessed via a maintained gravel road 2 miles from pavement. This property is at 4350’ elevation in the Chihuahuan high desert, known for its Chapparal (herb), Mesquite trees (food producing), varieties of cactus (all edible), Yucca (edible), Mormon Tea (herb), cool winters (not cold), warm summers (sometimes hot), summer monsoon rains, clear nightime skies for star watchers. This property is secluded at the end of the road with nearest neighbor ½ mile away. Close and lock the gate and have all the privacy you need. All building has been done on an 80 acre section with the adjacent 388 acre parcel blocking access to power for adjoining properties (little possibility of future developement). Lack of restrictions provide unlimited possibilities for potential growth and expansion. Please click website for more info & photos

Family seeks community Posted 7/5/2008
Our family of five seeks community with other children to enhance our lives and yours. We seek to share joys, sorrows and dreams by way of hard work, solid goals and a little faith. We are dad, 52, mom,44, Dylan,16, Connor, 13, and Kiernan,8. We try to live lightly and conscienciously on the land. We seek opportunities to help us have less dependency on things that rob us of our truer connections with others. WE know it takes a village to raise a child and are gung ho! about working cooperatively to make the future a brighter place for our kids. We enjoy farming, building, arts and crafts, volunteering, bicycling and connecting with new folks. Let's talk! We're ready to leave our Maine Island home to start sharing a life with you. We would consider internships, work trade or employment to make things work. Mom is a nurse by trade and dad a jack of all trades. We are not afraid of work. We ARE afraid of lives without purpose and joy. Let's build a brighter future together.
